The first big event of the show, Microsoft's press conference, is scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM Pacific Time. No doubt there will be a ton of information on the newly named Kinect . But what else? Will we see the rumored Xbox 360 Slim ? Any new news on Halo: Reach or Gears of War 3 ? And what surprises are in st

E3 has always been **THE ** industry event prime for showcasing new hardware, services and of course games. Microsoft is not new to the showcase, remaining strong contenders since the announcement of the original Halo on Xbox in 2001. From the tech demo of Halo 2 in 2003 to the appearance of the first HD Gaming console in 2005. However, it is practically universally agreed that the Microsoft conference at E3 2010 had very little appeal to the fan base that the Xbox has worked so hard to amass. Alienation to some and sacrilege to others, the star of the show was Kinect; a motion control dev<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">

It was the console to beat all others. Nintendo announced its new system two years before its unveiling. It was named, "Revolution" and had everybody buzzing. We now know it as the Wii-- a less than threatening name that is more suited to Nintendo's goals. "Revolution" served as a wonderful project title filled with mystery and excitement. However, according to Reggie Fils-Aime, it would not translate well under many other languages. Plus, a name like that would have probably caused an uproar from Americans stating the Japanese are out to get them again. That didn't happen...at least to my knowledge. Wii is friendlier and less menacing. Nintendo was right about the Wii's original namesake, it did cause quite the revolution in the video game industry because of its highly advanced motion sensor system.

Peter Molyneux is the man, or as the title suggests, the God, has been in the business since 1982. He began his climb to the top of the mountain by selling floppy disks containing Atari and Commodore games. After he dabbled in the development of a business simulator and some database systems, Peter founded Bullfrog Productions. Their first title was Populous, an award-winning god game which sold more than 4 million copies. In 1997, he left Bullfrog to join Lionhead Studios where he found more success and immortalized himself as a designer. Black & White, a god game with strategy and fighting elements, won many awards and became the company's flagship title until few years later. Fable, an open world RPG, brought the company even greater success. It placed Lionhead at the top of the industry. Peter Molyneux has since left the studio to found another. Wherever Peter works will be innovative.</del>
<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">
Opening up the month is the anticipated Fable Anniversary </ins>, a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">re-imagining </ins>of the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">hit RPG originally released on the Xbox nearly ten years ago. It arrives February 4th for the Xbox 360</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">On </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">5th</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">internet "let's </ins>play<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">" sensation Outlast will be available on the PS4</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Later in the </ins>month<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII makes its way to </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">PS3 </ins>and Xbox 360 <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">on February 11th. Finally</ins>, the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">long-awaited Thief reboot finds its way </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">all major platforms after nearly a decade of abse</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Oftentimes, the other concern, when discussing ported games</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">is </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">controls. Todd McFarlane is acting as executive art director on the game. Now, when I heard about this game, I was actually quite excited. It remains to be seen though, how a company started by a Major League Baseball player, Curt Schilling, will fare when compared to companies such as Microsoft and Blizzard. Personally, I'm wondering how much experience someone from the MLB would have running a gaming company. We'll just have to see what happens when it comes time for the pa

It looks like there's a lot more to look forward to this month, with more releases on the PS4 and Xbox One. But what else? Will we see the rumored Xbox 360 Slim ? Any new news on Halo: Reach or Gears of War 3 ? And what surprises are in st</ins>

Alienation to some and sacrilege to others, the star of the show was Kinect; a motion control dev

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">It was the console </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">beat all others. Nintendo announced its new system two years before its unveiling. It </ins>was <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">named, "Revolution" </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">had everybody buzzing</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">We now know </ins>it <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">as the Wii-- a less than threatening name </ins>that <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">is more suited to Nintendo</ins>'s <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">goals</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">"Revolution" served as </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">wonderful project title filled </ins>with <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">mystery and excitement</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">However</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">according </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Reggie Fils-Aime</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">it would not translate well under many other languages</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Plus</ins>, a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">name like </ins>that would <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">have probably caused </ins>an <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">uproar from Americans stating </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Japanese are out </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">get them again. That didn't happen...at least </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">my knowledge. Wii is friendlier and less menacing</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Nintendo </ins>was <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">right about </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Wii's original namesake, it did cause quite </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">revolution </ins>in the video game <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">industry because </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">its highly advanced motion sensor system.</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Peter Molyneux </ins>is <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the man</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">or as the title suggests</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the God</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">has been </ins>in the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">business since 1982. He began his climb to the top of </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">mountain by selling floppy disks containing Atari and Commodore games. </ins>After <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">he dabbled in </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">development of a business simulator and some database systems</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Peter founded Bullfrog Productions. Their first title </ins>was <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Populous, an award-winning god game which sold more than 4 million copies. In 1997, he left Bullfrog </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">join Lionhead Studios where he found more success and immortalized himself </ins>as a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">designer. Black & White, a god game with strategy and fighting elements</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">won many awards </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">became the company's flagship title until few years later</ins>. Fable<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">, an open world RPG, brought the company even greater success. It placed Lionhead at the top of the industry</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Peter Molyneux </ins>has <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">since left </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">studio to found another. Wherever Peter works will be innovative.</ins>
Lionhead claimed that this was their number </del>one <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">priority in building the PC version of the game. They completely reconfigured the control system for the PC - taking advantage of key things </del>like <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the mouse wheel (which is used </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">switch between magic, guns</del>, and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">swords, similar to how it is used in shooters to switch weapons)</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">The game controls well</del>, and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">even for </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">native Xbox player I found it easy </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">pick up and play. We knew we would hear from three </ins>of the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Xbox's ONLY _ exclusive secret weapons; _Fable III, Gears of War III and Halo: Reach . Microsoft is not new to the showcase</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">remaining strong contenders since the announcement of the original Halo on Xbox in 2001. From </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">tech demo of Halo 2 in 2003 </ins>to the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">appearance of the first HD Gaming console in 2005. They completely reconfigured the control system for the PC - taking advantage of key things like the mouse wheel (which is used to switch between magic, guns, and swords, similar to how it is used in shooters to switch weapons). The game controls well, and even for a native Xbox player I found it easy to pick up and play. Of course, the game also supports gamepads, and using the 360 controller offered a equivalent experience to playing on the X

One of the franchises that came out largely unscathed by excessive multiplayer capabilities was the Fable series. While Fable III did boast co-op capabilities, Lionhead Studios has never done anything quite on the scale of what it is attempting with the newly announced Fable Legends . The franchise's next-gen debut, an Xbox One exclusive, is an ambitious online jump for the series, allowing up to four players the opportunity to work together in order thwart another player taking on the role of the vill

Following the initial Kotaku report, Molyneux took to Twitter (for the first time since November 16th) to chat it up with fans and other industry icons ( Minecraft creator, Notch plus the aforementioned Cliffy B) - as well as reveal his plans for the fut

It looks like there's a lot more to look forward to this month, with more releases on the PS4 and Xbox One. Although it won't be until March that the next-gen titles start pouring in, February should have many releases to keep gamers occupied. Ranters, what are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comments section below! As for me, I'll be counting the days until Thief releases on St

Like most PC games, graphics settings are customizable, as are the control schemes. Unlike the 360 version, the PC version allows players to increase the difficulty level - which some may find too easy on the default setting. You'd expect a feature like this to have been available in the original version of the title - better late than never, I supp

Welcome to the first day of Game Rant's E3 2010 coverage.

Winter's still going on strong - for most of us, anyway - but the gaming release lull is slowly coming to an end! While most February releases are still geared towards the previous generation, there are a few next-gen games that should start the ball rolling for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Let's take a look at what February has to of

Opening up the month is the anticipated Fable Anniversary , a re-imagining of the hit RPG originally released on the Xbox nearly ten years ago. It arrives February 4th for the Xbox 360. On the 5th, internet "let's play" sensation Outlast will be available on the PS4. Later in the month, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII makes its way to the PS3 and Xbox 360 on February 11th. Rayman Legends jumps into the next-gen fray on the 18th, giving some much-needed platformer action to the PS4 and Xbox One. The Wii U gets its own taste of more platformer goodness on the 21st, when Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze swings into action. Finally, the long-awaited Thief reboot finds its way to all major platforms after nearly a decade of abse

F able 3 released to mostly positive reviews for the Xbox 360, though some were dissatisfied with the simpler upgrade system, the smaller game world, and the diluted enemy diversity. Now Fable 3 is finally heading to Windows PC, the delay between versions was supposedly due to the fact that Lionhead built a PC version that goes beyond a simple port. Developing the game as an Xbox 360/ Xbox One downloadable might have made more sense, given the timing of the anniversary as slap bang in the middle of the second wave of Xbox One tit

Online is an integral part of video games in the modern age. For better or for worse, the last generation of console was dominated by online gaming with competitive matchmaking becoming a norm for most AAA game titles, helping make the eSports culture more mainstream. The popularity of series such as Halo , Call of Duty and FIFA meant that for many gamers, online play was the main reason to keep playing a game. The consequences of this were that several publishers became slaves to the trend, putting (forcing?) in needless multiplayer modes that took away from certain game as a wh
