A lengthy trailer also provided another glimpse at the game including the new combat mechanics , boss battles, and previously unrevealed characters like Tifa Lockhart and Sephiroth. Glory kills return from the last game and these actions still give you health upon pulling them off. Chainsaw kills, in a similar fashion, still refuel your ammo reserves when needed. Joining these mechanics in Eternal though is that of a flamethrower which helps give you added armor. If you utilize your new flame device to catch demons on fire, killing them while they're still ablaze will allow you to net additional armor that explodes forth out of foes upon death. When you get into the thick of an arena battle in DOOM Eternal , you'll have to keep track of all three of these levels (health, armor, and ammo) and make sure that you're pulling off kills that will benefit what you might need at a given t

Choice was a big theme among some of our favorite E3 2019 games, like Dying Light 2 . In our demo, developer Techland wanted to highlight how the player’s decisions as Aiden Caldwell will determine the world that they inhabit. So without taking the latter category into account, Game Rant has selected its choices for the Best Games of E3 2019 . Keep in mind personal preference plays a part in this selection and some things we saw are not currently available onl

It turns out that Bethesda's upcoming **Doom Eternal ** gained an unusual tie to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy when it came to naming the sequel. 2016's Doom reinvented the shooter series from its original roots and brought the demonic world of Slayers to the next-generation of gaming conso

Snapmap, the fan-creation tool, won’t return in Doom Eternal. id revealed that one of the biggest criticisms they heard was that there was no single player DLC. Players wanted more id developed content, and so the developers opted to scrap Snapmap and focus those resources on post-launch single player content.

Luigi doesn’t get enough love within the Nintendo hierarchy, but he finally gets his much-requested sequel with Luigi’s Mansion 3 . Going hands-on with the game brought back memories of the Gamecube-era experience, from flashing ghosts to inhaling them with your Poltergust 3000. The Luigi’s Mansion formula doesn’t feel sufficiently mined yet, and so this third entry will try to combine a modern platform with new puzzles, clever design, and a charming main charac

"You hear us say it all the time, we call it Doom 2016, and the internet has called it Doom 2016. We go back and forth on whether it was a mistake to call it Doom. I still don’t think it was a mistake, because we really were kind of drawing a new line in the sand. Coming out and saying ‘we’re going to do Doom 2,’ we would have ‘Doom 2: Year of Release Date.

"Whether or not folks realize it, this is the hell on Earth time for us with E3," Hines told us during our conversation at PAX East. Many other outlets saw this "hell on Earth" comment specifically and thought it was a surefire tease that Hines was casually dropping into our conversation to let fans know that a new DOOM game would indeed be appearing at E3. Turns out, Hines wasn't playing four-dimensional chess in the middle of our conversat

RAGE 2 is incomparable with other post-apocalyptic games coming out this year, and looking to shake up the formula. Merging open-world gameplay with break-neck close combat action, the game will scratch a DOOM itch while we wait for DOOM Eternal . However, Avalanche Studios is setting up to evolve how we look at combat in a modern open-world FPS, and you should be exci

Like the old games, Doom Eternal was intentionally designed to encourage exploration. The developers grew up playing games that rewarded players who traveled off the beaten path in search of secrets, which they wanted to emulate. In Doom Eternal, wandering off the beaten path nets players collectibles and special pickups, such as extra lives. Extra lives serve as a ‘get out of jail’ card that instantly respawns players into a fight without having to load a checkpoint.

Interestingly, Doom Eternal still has a Hell on Earth vibe as the recent QuakeCon gameplay trailer showed the ruins of an apocalyptic Earth alongside the Martian moon of Phobos. Much more than a standard sequel, Doom Eternal will include a change to 2016's maligned multiplayer and also introduce a new 'Invasions' system where teams of players can enter someone else's single-player campaign as a group of bloodthirsty dem

Marvel’s Avengers did what most popular games at E3 do: it used a behind closed doors gameplay presentation to clear up a lot of the confusion around the game. With almost a year to go until the game releases, there is still plenty more for Crystal Dynamics to reveal (and polish) but our early look at the game left us with the impression that this could be something special for Marvel fans. Doom Eternal picks up after the events of Doom 2016. Bad things appear to have gone down between humans and demons, but id was mum on specific details. The developer’s philosophy behind Doom Eternal’s story is similar to the previous game. The A-story is about getting players through the game and having a blast while doing it. The B-story provides depth, context and additional lore to the proceedings.
